Week of the Young Child

Get ready for a week of fun, learning, and celebration! From April 7th to 11th, we’re joining communities across the nation to honor our youngest learners during the Week of the Young Child. Each day of the week is designated for our children to explore, engage, and participate in various activities. Listed below are the focus themes for each day.

  • Music Monday: Focus on music and movement activities.
  • Tasty Tuesday: Incorporate food-related activities.
  • Work Together Wednesday: Emphasize the importance of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Artsy Thursday: Engage in creative art activities.
  • Family Friday: Involve families in activities and celebrations.

The week of the Young Child is a time to remember that every child deserves the best start in life, and that means creating enriching environments at home, in childcare, at school, and throughout our wonderful Bryan/College Station community.

Music Monday

Why is music and movement important for child development?

Music and movement activities are vital for child development because they foster physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth by improving motor skills, language acquisition, and emotional expression, while also boosting self-confidence and creating a sense of belonging.

We’ve packed the Week of the Young Child with exciting music and movement activities for children and families to enjoy together! Get ready to sing, dance, and move to the rhythm with a special performance by the amazing Bryan High School dance group, the Shy-Annes along with a performance from the A&M Wind Symphony Orchestra. This is your chance to see the joy of music and dance come to life.

Tasty Tuesday

Why is tasting diverse foods crucial for child development?

Tasting diverse foods is crucial for child development as it fosters healthy eating habits, strengthens sensory skills, and expands palates, ultimately leading to a more varied and nutritious diet that supports overall well-being. Giving children foods with a variety of different tastes and textures can help them: Learn to accept and like a variety of foods.

On Tasty Tuesday, children and teachers will explore tasty treats with their classmates. Parents will have an opportunity to taste something on Tuesday as well.

Community Partnerships

We are excited to work together with families to help us in creating a Cereal Box Domino Challenge at CSCC. We need your help collecting cereal boxes. Following the domino challenge, cereal boxes will be loaded up and donated to Henderson Elementary in Bryan ISD. Our children will not only have fun participating in a domino challenge but also learn the importance of sharing with others.

Cereal box collections are underway and will continue through April 8. On April 9, Work Together Wednesday, the children will help load the cereal boxes for delivery.
