April 2025 BGCC Center Spotlight

by | Mar 20, 2025

The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is:

  • A time to recognize that children’s opportunities are our responsibility!
  • A time to recommit to providing an environment that will promote early learning for each and every child.
  • A platform for spreading the word about the importance of high-quality learning.
  • A time to highlight the importance of community and collaborations.
  • A time to recognize the important role early childhood educators play in the development of our early learners.

In Aggie terms, the Week of the Young Child is also an opportunity to demonstrate the Aggie Core Values.

Work Together Wednesday

Respect

We believe people matter. We value and treat ourselves and others with care, compassion, dignity, civility and fairness. We appreciate, learn from and create a welcoming and inclusive environment that values uniqueness, diversity and a sense of community.

Selfless Service

We are part of a global community and purpose that is bigger than ourselves. We work with and help others to have a positive impact; and, we do so without expectation of recognition or reward.

Our littlest Aggies are asking for your help in collecting donations for The 12th Can. The Texas A&M Food Pantry is student-led and serves Aggie students, staff and faculty in need of assistance. The 12th Can has been serving Aggies for over a decade with a goal of eliminating hunger across the TAMU community and bringing awareness to food insecurity.

During The Week of the Young Child, we’d like to Work Together with families and friends of BGCC to collect donations for The 12th Can at Texas A&M University.

Collections are underway and will continue through April 8. On April 9, Work Together Wednesday, the children will help load the items for delivery to The 12th Can.

Family Friday

Loyalty

We are dedicated to a greater purpose. We trust, respect and support each other. We are stronger and better together because of our shared support of the University.

Excellence

We are dedicated to excel in what we do and we continually strive to improve. We are passionate about delivering results and achieving desired outcomes, impact and value that exceeds expectations.

We are thrilled to be collaborating with The Gardens at Texas A&M University and Junior Master Gardeners for a Fun Family Friday event on April 11 to wrap up WOYC 2025.

The mission of The Gardens at Texas A&M University | Leach Teaching Gardens is to engage the community in a living teaching environment, encourage curiosity and discovery and develop wonder for the natural world.

Texas A&M University The Gardens

The Junior Master Gardener program is an international youth gardening program of the university cooperative Extension network. JMG engages children in novel, “hands-on” group and individual learning experiences that provide a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment, and cultivate the mind.

Together we have planned engaging learning activities for children and their families. There will be an opportunity to learn about pollination, dig your hands into a variety of soil, investigate and dissect flowers, use your senses to explore a variety of herbs, and crawl through a root tunnel.

In a recent article Nature as Therapeutic | Sensory Regulation in the Outdoor Environment, Angela Hanscom discusses the inherent therapeutic qualities of nature.

  • Nature is calming.
  • Nature improves the visual sense.
  • Nature fosters listening.
  • Nature enhances the sense of touch.

Come and enjoy some fun on our Nature Explore Certified Classroom from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11 and experience some the benefits of nature has to offer.

Join us at The Gardens at Texas A&M University to celebrate spring with a free, family-friendly event! Enjoy refreshments, explore educational displays, make crafts, and learn about pollinators. The butterfly release starts at 11:00 am—sign up at the Butterfly Release table to participate. Don’t miss out on the fun!
