Embracing our Aggie Core Value of Selfless Service

As we approach the holiday season, our Aggie Core Value of Selfless Service shines brightly. This core value centered on helping others without expectations of personal reward or recognition, is a guiding principle in both our center’s culture and the hearts of our students. During this time of year, we see it truly come to life in meaningful and impactful ways.

Our dedicated teachers work tirelessly throughout the year to instill in our students the skills and mindset necessary to serve others. From learning how to help one another and work together to practicing kindness, empathy, and problem-solving, our students are constantly developing the tools to be good friends and community members. These everyday lessons, grounded in respect and care for others, create a foundation for larger acts of service.

During this time, we see students putting these lessons into action, demonstrating their ability to be generous and selfless in their interactions with one another. Whether it’s sharing with a classmate, offering a kind word, or working together to help someone in need, the spirit of Selfless Service is palpable.

Highlighted in the Becky Gates Children’s Center this month, are two impactful initiatives that demonstrate our commitment to service, care, and community – values that are at the heart of our Aggie tradition.

Veterans Day Cards: A Heartful Thank You

This month, our students took part in a special project to honor our nation’s veterans. We delivered cards to the Don & Ellie Knauss Veteran Resource & Support Center and the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System to show our gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans.

Flu Season Awareness: Washing Hands to Stay Healthy

As we enter flu season, our collaboration with Student Health Services is more important than ever. Together, we are sending the vital message to our Aggie students: Hand hygiene awareness is important! Proper handwashing is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs.

Engaging with Our Community and Building Connections

This month at the Charlotte Sharp Children’s Center, we are excited to highlight another impactful initiative that emphasizes campus engagement and the important of connecting with our broader community.

Our students had the unique opportunity to engage and interact with students from the Dance Science Program in the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts. Through this hands-on experience, our students had the chance to interact with college-level dancers and explore the exciting world of dance from both a creative and scientific perspective. The collaboration provided an enriching experience that combined movement, artistry, and physical wellness. Opportunities like these are invaluable in broadening out students’ horizons, fostering creativity, and encouraging them to explore new possibilities. We are grateful to the Dance Science Program for their partnership in creating such a memorable experience for our students.

We look forward to continuing to provide our students with opportunities to engage with the broader campus community, and we can’t wait to see how these experiences inspire their future endeavors!
